Last Updated: September 14, 2026 Effective Date: September 14, 2026
Welcome to Taisho Mysteries (《大正謎錄》).
Taisho Mysteries is operated by HSIEH HUI LIN (the “Operator”) and is available at:
The Service is an interactive mystery game provided through a web browser.
By registering an account, browsing, playing, making a purchase, or otherwise using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to these Terms of Service.
If you do not agree to these Terms, please stop using the Service.
1. Scope of These Terms
- These Terms apply to the Taisho Mysteries website, game content, account system, paid content, Letter System, leaderboards, events, redemption codes, referral features, and any other related features or services provided by the Operator (collectively, the “Service”).
- The Operator may provide additional rules, descriptions, notices, or terms for specific stories, events, paid content, or features. Such additional terms form part of these Terms.
- If a specific feature or event is subject to separate rules that conflict with these Terms, those specific rules will prevail within their applicable scope.
- Purchase transactions for the Service are processed through Paddle. Paddle acts as the Merchant of Record and authorized reseller for the applicable orders. For payment transactions, Paddle’s Buyer Terms, Privacy Notice, and other applicable transaction terms may also apply.
2. Accounts and Eligibility
- Certain content may be available without registration. However, an account is required to use save features, purchase content, access the Letter System or leaderboards, or use certain other features.
- Users must provide accurate and valid registration information and are responsible for safeguarding their accounts and login credentials.
- Users may not sell, rent, or transfer their accounts, or use another person’s account without authorization.
- If a user becomes aware of unauthorized access to their account, they should contact the Operator as soon as possible. The Operator will provide reasonable assistance in addressing the issue.
- Users who have not reached the age of legal majority in their place of residence must obtain consent from a parent or legal guardian before making purchases or taking any other action for which such consent is legally required.
3. Game Content and Character Routes
- Taisho Mysteries is an interactive digital game centered on storytelling, mystery-solving, multiple character perspectives, and player choices.
- Different stories may include:
- different character perspectives;
- designated play or unlock sequences;
- characters, stories, or chapters that have not yet been released;
- different content and endings based on player choices, answers, gameplay records, or progress; and
- content that becomes available only after certain conditions are met.
- Certain characters, stories, chapters, side stories, or features may be added, updated, or released at a later date.
- Choices, answers, scores, achievements, endings, and unlock status are part of the game design. Except where an abnormal result is caused by a system error, the Operator generally will not alter gameplay records merely because a player is dissatisfied with the outcome.
- The stories, characters, organizations, dialogue, and events presented in the Service are generally fictional. Even where certain content draws inspiration from real history, people, cultures, locations, institutions, or social circumstances, it is not intended as a complete reproduction of historical fact. Any resemblance to actual persons, organizations, events, or locations is purely coincidental.
4. Purchases and Paddle
- The Service may offer paid character routes, stories, chapters, side stories, or other digital content.
- Online orders and payments for the Service are processed by Paddle.
- Paddle acts as the Merchant of Record and authorized reseller for the applicable transactions. When a player completes a purchase through Paddle Checkout, the purchase transaction is entered into between the player and Paddle.
- Taisho Mysteries and the Operator act as the supplier of the relevant game content and provide and license the purchased digital content to the player in accordance with these Terms.
- When completing a transaction through Paddle, players should also review and comply with Paddle’s applicable Buyer Terms and other transaction terms.
- Paddle is responsible, within the scope of its transaction system, for payment processing, checkout, applicable taxes, payment disputes, execution of refunds, chargebacks, and other transaction-related matters.
- The Operator does not directly obtain or store full credit card numbers or card security codes entered by players through Paddle.
- The following information for each paid item will be as displayed on the applicable product page, Paddle Checkout, and final purchase confirmation screen:
- product name;
- price and currency;
- included content;
- unlock requirements;
- delivery timing;
- payment methods; and
- other material transaction information.
- Paddle may offer different payment methods and localized prices depending on a player’s location, currency, device, payment eligibility, or other applicable factors.
- Unless otherwise expressly stated on the applicable product or purchase page, paid game content currently offered by the Service is generally provided as a one-time purchase and will not automatically renew or result in recurring charges.
5. License to Digital Content
- Upon completion of a valid purchase, the player receives the right to use the applicable digital content in accordance with these Terms and the applicable purchase conditions.
- Purchasing digital content does not transfer to the player any copyright, trademark, ownership right, or other intellectual property right in the stories, characters, illustrations, music, software, fictional universe, or other works.
- Unless otherwise stated on the applicable product page, the right to use purchased digital content is generally linked to the Taisho Mysteries account used to complete the purchase.
- If paid content is subject to specific story-completion requirements, character-route sequencing, or other unlock conditions, the player must satisfy those conditions before accessing the relevant content.
- The Operator will make reasonable efforts to continue providing major paid content that players have lawfully acquired, but may make necessary modifications for technical, security, legal, or other significant reasons.
6. Cancellations and Refunds
- Products sold through the Service primarily consist of digital content delivered over the internet.
- Cancellation, refund, and other remedy conditions are described in the Taisho Mysteries Refund Policy.
- For digital content that has been properly provided and made accessible, refunds generally will not be provided for the following reasons unless otherwise required by applicable law, Paddle’s applicable transaction terms, or the Refund Policy:
- the player simply changes their mind;
- the player does not complete the game;
- the player does not obtain their desired ending, score, or achievement;
- the player does not like the story, characters, writing style, or plot development; or
- the player finds the difficulty, amount of reading, or playtime different from what they expected.
- Players may contact the Operator for review or assistance if:
- payment was completed but the relevant content cannot be accessed due to an issue with the Operator’s system;
- the content actually provided materially differs from what was stated on the purchase page;
- the player’s account did not correctly receive the purchased access rights; or
- another issue arises in connection with the delivery of game content.
- Where an actual return of funds is required, the refund transaction will be processed by Paddle in accordance with its systems, applicable transaction terms, and applicable law. The Operator will not independently refund transactions processed by Paddle through another method.
- Paddle may also independently process a cancellation or refund in accordance with its Buyer Terms, refund procedures, or applicable law. Neither these Terms nor the Refund Policy limits any mandatory consumer rights available to players under applicable law.
7. Mission Rewards and In-Game Rewards
- Players may receive “Mission Rewards” or other in-game rewards by completing stories, missions, events, referrals, or other gameplay activities.
- Unless expressly stated otherwise by the Operator, such in-game rewards:
- may only be used within the Service in the designated manner;
- have no cash value;
- cannot be redeemed for cash;
- may not be sold; and
- may not be transferred to another account through any unauthorized method.
- Certain features, such as the Letter System or other special content, may require players to spend a specified amount of Mission Rewards.
- The methods for earning Mission Rewards, their uses, and the amounts required may be adjusted as the game is updated.
- If an adjustment may materially affect players’ existing rights or interests, the Operator will provide reasonable advance notice.
8. Letter System and AI-Generated Content
- The Service may allow players to send letters to game characters and receive replies from those characters.
- The Letter System is part of the gameplay experience and is not an instant messaging service. Replies may be delayed and are not guaranteed to arrive within any fixed period.
- The characters available for correspondence, number of letters, applicable conditions, Mission Reward costs, and other restrictions may vary depending on story progress, character status, or other game design elements.
- Letter replies may be generated or assisted, in whole or in part, using generative artificial intelligence technologies.
- To provide the Letter System, content entered by players, together with limited gameplay information necessary to generate an appropriate character response, may be processed by external AI service providers used by the Operator.
- Personal data processing, cross-border processing, and other privacy matters relating to AI services are governed by the Taisho Mysteries Privacy Notice.
- AI-generated content involves a degree of uncertainty. Replies may occasionally contain:
- errors;
- repetition;
- inconsistencies;
- deviations from character or world-setting details; or
- other unexpected content.
- AI-generated character letters are fictional in-game content and should not be regarded as medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice.
- Users may not use the Letter System or AI features to:
- transmit unlawful content or content that infringes another person’s rights;
- transmit threatening, harassing, hateful, or malicious content;
- distribute malicious software, spam, or bulk advertising;
- provide another person’s private or confidential information without authorization;
- attempt to hack, manipulate, disrupt, or bypass the AI system or the Service’s security measures; or
- engage in other conduct that materially interferes with the normal operation of the Service.
- Players should avoid entering passwords, complete payment information, government identification numbers, precise residential addresses, medical information, or other highly sensitive information unrelated to the game in letters.
9. Leaderboards and Gameplay Records
- The Service may provide leaderboards based on game performance, characters, completion status, or other criteria.
- When a player participates in a leaderboard, the following information may be visible to other players:
- nickname;
- ranking;
- score;
- character used; and
- other gameplay results directly related to the leaderboard.
- The Operator will not publicly display a player’s email address, payment information, or private letter content solely because the player participates in a leaderboard.
- Users may not manipulate leaderboard results through automated tools, modified software, exploits, multiple fraudulent accounts, or other improper means.
- If leaderboard records result from cheating, program errors, system abnormalities, or other improper conduct, the Operator may correct or remove those records.
10. Redemption Codes, Referral Codes, and Events
- The Operator may distribute redemption codes, promotional codes, or other event benefits through exhibitions, events, collaborations, referral programs, or other channels.
- The following conditions for each code or event will be governed by the rules published for that particular event:
- validity period;
- redeemable content;
- number of permitted uses;
- whether sharing is permitted;
- eligible accounts;
- eligible regions; and
- other restrictions.
- Unless expressly permitted by the applicable event rules, users may not:
- create large numbers of fraudulent accounts to obtain referral rewards;
- use automated methods to redeem codes in bulk;
- forge, crack, or unlawfully obtain redemption codes;
- sell redemption benefits that may not legally or contractually be resold; or
- manipulate referral or event results through other improper means.
- If a particular redemption code is expressly permitted to be shared or used without a usage limit under the applicable event rules, sharing or using that code in accordance with those rules will not violate these Terms.
- The Operator may reasonably correct rewards that were improperly obtained as a result of an obvious system error, exploit, or abnormal operation.
11. Prohibited Conduct
When using the Service, users may not:
- violate applicable law or public order and morality;
- infringe the copyright, trademark rights, privacy rights, or other rights of the Operator, other players, or third parties;
- reproduce, distribute, sell, or publicly disclose paid stories, game assets, images, software, or data in full, or in a manner that substantially substitutes for the original work, without authorization;
- hack, reverse engineer, modify, or bypass access restrictions, payment mechanisms, or security measures of the Service;
- use bots, scripts, crawlers, or other automated tools without permission to place an abnormal load on the Service, manipulate gameplay results, or obtain non-public information;
- exploit vulnerabilities, improper methods, or fraudulent accounts to obtain paid content, rankings, discounts, or rewards;
- impersonate another player, the Operator, Paddle, or any other third party;
- interfere with the website, servers, account systems, AI systems, or other players’ normal use of the Service;
- use the Service or its content for commercial purposes without authorization;
- attempt to access the Service’s databases, administrative interfaces, or other non-public systems without authorization;
- make payments or initiate payment disputes through fraud, false information, or other improper means; or
- engage in any other conduct that the Operator reasonably determines would materially interfere with the security or operation of the Service or the rights of other players.
12. Intellectual Property, Content Sharing, and Fan Works
- Intellectual property rights relating to the stories, text, characters, fictional universe, illustrations, logos, interfaces, music, software, and other content of Taisho Mysteries belong to the Operator or the applicable lawful rights holders.
- Playing or purchasing the Service does not transfer any intellectual property rights in such content to the player.
- The Operator welcomes players to reasonably share the following, provided that doing so does not harm the experience of other players or the rights of the applicable rights holders:
- impressions and reviews;
- recommendations;
- livestreams or gameplay recordings;
- screenshots; and
- fan works.
- If the Operator separately publishes content-sharing or fan-work guidelines, users must comply with those guidelines.
- Without permission, users may not:
- publicly disclose substantial portions of the complete game text;
- disclose material that would allow others to obtain the primary paid content without purchasing or playing it;
- directly repackage and sell official stories, images, music, or other assets;
- use official content to create or provide third-party products or services that effectively substitute for the original work; or
- cause others to believe that a work, product, or service is officially produced, partnered with, or authorized by Taisho Mysteries when it is not.
- Nothing in this Section restricts quotation, criticism, commentary, or other use permitted by applicable law without the consent of the rights holder.
13. User-Submitted Content
- When players submit content through letters, nicknames, surveys, feedback, or other features, any pre-existing rights in that content remain with the player or the original rights holder.
- To provide, maintain, secure, and improve the Service, players agree that the Operator may store, process, transmit, and display such content to the extent reasonably necessary.
- If a relevant feature uses an external service, including an AI service, the applicable content may be provided to that service provider to the extent necessary to provide the feature.
- Unless separate consent has been obtained, applicable law provides otherwise, or the information can no longer reasonably identify a particular player, the Operator will not arbitrarily publish the original text of private letters as advertising or promotional material.
- If publicly submitted content violates applicable law, these Terms, or the rights of a third party, the Operator may restrict its display or remove it in accordance with applicable law or reasonable procedures.
14. Service Maintenance, Updates, and Changes
- The Operator may temporarily suspend all or part of the Service to conduct maintenance, updates, security fixes, content updates, or other necessary work.
- Where reasonably practicable, advance notice will be provided for significant scheduled maintenance.
- To improve the gameplay experience, the Operator may modify:
- user interfaces;
- game balance;
- methods of presenting stories;
- missions and reward systems;
- AI-related features;
- account and website features; and
- technical architecture.
- The Operator will not arbitrarily remove major paid content already acquired by a player without a reasonable basis.
- If the Operator must permanently discontinue all or a significant part of the Service for operational, technical, security, legal, or other material reasons, the Operator will provide reasonable advance notice where practicable and will handle outstanding obligations in accordance with applicable law and relevant transaction terms.
15. Account Suspension and Termination
- Players may stop using the Service or request deletion of their accounts through the methods provided on the website.
- If a user seriously or repeatedly violates these Terms, the Operator may take action proportionate to the violation, including:
- issuing a warning;
- correcting or removing improper records;
- restricting certain features;
- temporarily suspending the account; or
- terminating the account.
- Where conduct involves a serious cybersecurity risk, malicious attack, fraud, clear cheating, unlawful activity, or a significant risk of harm to other players, the Operator may take immediate action as necessary.
- Except in urgent situations, the Operator will generally take reasonable and proportionate measures based on the seriousness of the violation.
- If an account is restricted or terminated due to the user’s violation of these Terms, rewards, leaderboard records, or other benefits obtained through improper means may also be invalidated.
- The effect of an account suspension or deletion on existing payment transactions will be governed by these Terms, the Refund Policy, Paddle’s applicable transaction terms, and applicable law.
16. Service Quality and Limitation of Liability
- The Operator will make reasonable efforts to maintain the stability, security, and quality of the Service, but does not guarantee that:
- the Service will be available without interruption at all times;
- the Service will be completely free of programming errors;
- the Service will function perfectly on every device, browser, or network environment; or
- AI-generated content will always be completely accurate or meet a player’s expectations.
- If the Service is interrupted due to network failures, outages of third-party services, natural disasters, war, major cybersecurity incidents, government measures, or other circumstances reasonably beyond the Operator’s control, the Operator will make reasonable efforts to restore the Service.
- Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law.
- Where Japan’s Consumer Contract Act or other mandatory consumer protection laws apply to the Service, the Operator’s liability will be governed by those laws, and these Terms shall not be interpreted to exclude liability that cannot legally be excluded.
- To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Operator will only be liable for indirect, special, or consequential damages to the extent such liability may lawfully be imposed, where such damages were not caused by the Operator’s willful misconduct or gross negligence.
17. Third-Party Services
- The Service’s website is built or operated using third-party technology services such as Lovable, and may use other third-party services to provide:
- website and cloud infrastructure;
- databases;
- account login and authentication;
- email services;
- website analytics;
- AI and generative AI services;
- error monitoring; and
- other technologies necessary to provide the Service.
- Payments and transactions for the Service are processed by Paddle.
- When players use Paddle Checkout or other services independently provided by third parties, the terms of service and privacy policies of those third parties may separately apply.
- Paddle may provide payment or buyer support directly to players for transaction- and order-related matters. For issues relating to game content, accounts, save data, stories, or the product itself, players may contact Taisho Mysteries support.
- The Operator will exercise reasonable care in selecting and managing relevant third-party service providers, but cannot control services independently provided by such third parties.
18. Personal Data and Privacy
- The collection, use, retention, outsourcing, and cross-border processing of player personal data, gameplay records, letter content, and other information by the Operator are governed by the Taisho Mysteries Privacy Notice.
- Personal data collected and processed by Paddle in connection with payment, checkout, and buyer services are separately governed by Paddle’s Privacy Notice and related policies.
- If the Service uses cookies, website analytics tools, AI services, or similar technologies, related information will also be handled in accordance with the Taisho Mysteries Privacy Notice and any other notices provided on the website.
19. Changes to These Terms
- The Operator may amend these Terms due to changes in the Service, legal requirements, security needs, changes to third-party services, or other reasonable operational needs.
- When these Terms are amended, the Operator will provide notice of the changes and their effective date through the website, email, or another reasonable method, depending on the nature of the change and applicable law.
- If an amendment may materially affect players’ rights or obligations, the Operator will provide reasonable advance notice.
- If applicable law requires the player’s consent to a particular amendment, the relevant amendment will apply only after the Operator obtains such consent as required by law.
- If a player does not agree to the amended Terms, the player may stop using the Service.
- Purchases or other transactions completed before an amendment will remain subject to applicable law, the conditions displayed when the transaction was completed, Paddle’s applicable transaction terms, and any other relevant agreements.
20. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
- These Terms and the legal relationship between players and the Operator regarding use of Taisho Mysteries are generally governed by the laws of Japan.
- This Section governs only the relationship between players and the Operator in connection with use of the Service. Purchase and payment transactions between players and Paddle are separately governed by Paddle’s applicable Buyer Terms.
- If a dispute arises between a player and the Operator in connection with the Service, the parties will first attempt to resolve the matter through good-faith discussions.
- For litigation arising out of or relating to the Service, in addition to any court having jurisdiction under applicable law, the Tokyo District Court or Tokyo Summary Court may serve as an additional agreed court of first instance.
- Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any rights that players may have under mandatory consumer protection laws applicable in their place of residence.
